Top 5 AWESOME Tips On Booking A Vacation

written by: Conrad K.

1. SIGN UP FOR AIRFARE ALERTS
If you have an idea on where you want to go next, you can sign up for airfare alerts from airlines to notify you when there is a drop in price. That'll save you money PLUS it'll give you a really good reason to book that trip and put it on your calendar. The word is that 3PM on Tuesday is the best time to buy tickets but if you have time, check to see if that's true.

2.CHECK FARES OFTEN AND BOOK EARLY!
On average the price difference between the best day and the worst day to buy your ticket can be up to $236! Airfare changes all the time so what you see one day can be different the next day. Ofcourse the closer you get to your vacation date to book, the higher the price your ticket will be if you had booked it a month or even a week earlier. So once you know what date you're going, book that ticket and continue to check the fares. Most places have a best price guaranteed so you can get your fare adjusted later if you see it for cheaper. According to CheapAir, the best time to buy a plane ticket was about 7 weeks in advanced. The biggest price increase happens if you book within 2 weeks of your travel date and ofcourse try not to travel during the holidays.

3. WATCH OUT FOR HIDDEN FEES
Most airlines will charge you a checked bag fee so make sure you account for that additional cost. Some airlines (international and SOUTHWEST!) won't charge you checked luggage fees. Some bargain airlines will give you a lower cost ticket but have fees that might even cost more than a regular airline ticket. Some fees to look out for are booking with a live person, checking in at the airport, changing seats, or using the restroom (just kidding on this last one...for now).

4. PROMO AND DISCOUNTS AND COUPONS ARE YOUR KEYWORDS
When searching for flights and hotels online, search for your destination with those keywords. Most of the time you'll find some kind of package or deal on airfare or hotels to your destination.

5. KEEP YOUR SEARCHES A SECRET
Ever look up prices on an airfare and then come back an hour later and find out that it's gone up in price? It's not you..it happens to everyone. Flight prices do get increased somehow or somewhere when they know people are searching for a particular trip. The secret to avoiding that is to go incognito or private browsing mode when you search for prices. On Chrome browsers, click on the 3 bar icon in the top right corner and select incognito mode. That'll keep your history and browsing hidden from these sites.
